New York Mets’ ace Noah Syndergaard has been scratched from his scheduled start today with a “tired arm” and bicep discomfort.

The New York Mets’ miserable opening month of 2017 just got a whole lot worse. The team announced today that Noah Syndergaard will not make his scheduled start against the Braves.

Syndergaard was set to pitch in the Mets’ matinee finale of their homestand. Matt Harvey will instead take the mound.

Mets’ skipper Terry Collins announced before the game that Syndergaard (appropriately nicknamed “Thor”) is dealing with a “tired arm.”

It is too early to tell right now how serious the injury is or how long Syndergaard may be out. However, MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo did report that there is a chance he could pitch as soon as Sunday, pending MRI results:

Worth noting, the Mets had originally penciled Syndergaard in to pitch last night’s game. Thor’s regularly scheduled next start would have been yesterday. The Mets were rained out Tuesday and said Syndergaard would pitch Wednesday, before ultimately going with Robert Gsellman, who was slated to pitch Tuesday.

The Thor injury news adds to a long list of woes that have plagued the Mets so far in 2017. The team has gotten off to a dreadful 8-12 start and is coming off being swept at the hands of their division rivals, the Washington Nationals.

In addition, the Mets have already suffered a rash of injuries this year. Lucas Duda is on the disabled list with a wrist injury. Wilmer Flores is dealing with a knee infection. Yoenis Cespedes missed the entire Nationals series with a hamstring problem. Asdrubal Cabrera has also been dealing with hamstring issues. Travis d’Arnaud has missed multiple games with a bruise on his throwing hand.

New York’s pitching depth has also taken a hit. Steven Matz and Seth Lugo have been on the disabled list since the start of the season. Jacob deGrom also recently had to be pushed back a day due to neck discomfort.
