A giant African python making its way across the golf course is definitely something you don’t see every day.

Apparently hoping to get a round of golf in on an off day, an African rock python slithered across a fairway at a course in Zimbali on Wednesday. Was it hoping to join a group to create a foursome?

When unsuspecting golfers noticed the nearly 20-foot long python on the eighth hole, one hacker stood behind to study it. Once, he attempted to reach down to touch it, then changed his mind. About a minute later, the golfer summoned enough courage to pet its end. The python reared up and the golfer naturally jumped back. Eventually, the python made its way out of a sand trap and continued its round in the rough.

The African rock python (Python sebae) is the largest snake in Africa and one of the largest six snakes in the world. It’s nonvenomous and resides in sub-Saharan Africa. The African rock python commonly grows to more than 20 feet long. It can be found in a variety of habitats such as deserts and forests, generally near water.

While attacks on humans are rare, the African rock python’s diet consists of a variety of animals, including antelope. Crocodiles also are on the menu. One striking difference between the African rock python and other snake species is the fact that females protect their eggs and, at times, her hatchlings.

By the way, where was the snake’s cart. Doesn’t it know walking, let along slithering, on many golf courses is discouraged.

Also, what would the penalty be if the ball landed on the African rock python? Would be stroke and loooooooong distance?

First, it was “Snakes on a Plane.” Now, this? I’ll pass on that script.
