Get your game day gear ready! Lee Corso confirmed during a radio interview in Mobile, Alabama that ESPN’s College GameDay will be headed to Atlanta to begin the season, for the showdown between Alabama and Florida State. The matchup will be played in Atlanta’s new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in what could potentially be a matchup between the top two ranked teams heading into the 2017 season.

Corso announced the news on a radio show interview with WNSP-FM 105.5 in Mobile, Alabama. Corso stated, “It’s going to be that one because it is two excellent football teams. We’re going to be starting the season going to a tremendous football game.”

We are just as excited as you are, Mr. Corso! The time of the game has yet to be determined, but we do know that it will be broadcasted live on ESPN.

This will be Alabama’s fifth appearance playing the kickoff game in Atlanta, while Florida State will be appearing in it for the first time in program history. The two teams last played each other in 2007, where Florida State won that game 21-14.

Both Alabama and Florida State finished within the top four of the 2017 ESPN recruiting class rankings, so neither team is short on talent. It will be one of the biggest matchups each team will be involved in all season, so lucky for them that they get to get it out of the way early on. Alabama will be looking to regroup from their loss in the National Championship game last season, and get their season off on the right foot.

The game is set to be played on September 2, during Labor Day Weekend.
