Missouri had landed 4-star prospect Jeremiah Tilmon
The Missouri Tigers’ basketball renaissance just got a little bit stronger. Late Monday morning, the school announced via its Twitter account that 4-star center prospect Jeremiah Tilmon had committed to the program.
Tilmon is a top 40 recruit in the class of 2017, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He was just one of just five top 40 players left to make a decision after point guard Trevon Duval committed to Duke earlier in the morning. As a semi-local prospect from East St. Louis, IL, Missouri became the favorite to land Tilmon after he received his release from Illinois in early April.
The 6-foot-10 center is the fourth 2017 commitment for new Missouri head coach Cuonzo Martin. The other prospects in the class are No. 1 ranked player Michael Porter Jr., fellow 4-star point guard Blake Harris and 3-star point guard C.J. Roberts. It is ranked as the No. 6 class in the country, per 247Sports.
The addition of Tilmon is the latest in a long line of offseason wins for a program that had suffered plenty of losses on the court in its recent history. The Tigers have lost 20 or more games in each of the last three seasons, which caused the school to finally pull the trigger and fire head coach Kim Anderson in March.
Martin, an East St. Louis native himself, opted to leave California to join the program just 10 days after Anderson’s firing. Shortly after his hiring became official, Martin hired Michael Porter Sr. as an assistant coach and one day later his son, the No. 1 prospect in the 2017 class, committed to the school.
Missouri could yet land another big time commitment if Porter Jr.’s brother, Jontay, decides to reclassify to the class of 2017. He is currently the No. 27 ranked recruit in the class of 2018, but has been rising on boards across the country after delivering standout performances on the Nike EYBL circuit this summer.
The Porter family is from Columbia, MO.
