In this week’s episode of Lucifer, “God Johnson,” Lucifer encounters a man who claims to be his father, and this isn’t too far from the truth. Here’s the recap!

Lucifer wakes up on a gurney talking about how he isn’t the Devil. He’s just a delusional man who made it all up.

36 hours earlier….

During a session with Dr. Linda, Linda says that she’s concerned about Lucifer’s plan to release his mom into Heaven with his father. She’s worried that it would mean curtains for the rest of humanity. Linda wonders what Maze thinks of Lucifer’s plan but he reveals that he hasn’t told her because Maze has been spending a lot of time with Chloe.

Chloe tries to escape her house without being seen, but Maze catches her and offers her burnt toast. She misreads Chloe’s expression and agrees that the domestic thing isn’t her style. Maze offers to find someone they can kill, but that’s not what Chloe wanted either. Maze thinks she knows what Chloe is getting at, which probably isn’t the case at all.

Later, Chloe asks Lucifer if he has seen Maze lately. She tries to tell him it would be a good idea for them to spend time with each other. They find Ella with the latest victim, a patient at the mental hospital. He died from a blow from a backgammon board. The perpetrator is a patient whose name is God Johnson, which piques Lucifer’s interest, but there’s red tape involved in interviewing a psych ward patient, so Dan and Chloe go off to get permission. Lucifer walks right in and starts talking, and at first he plays along with the man called God, but when he asks what God really wants, Lucifer finds that God is immune to his charm. When he leaves, God calls him by his given name, which makes Lucifer realize that this could be the real thing.

Later, Lucifer tells Amenadiel about God Johnson, and Amenadiel isn’t convinced. Their father usually sends an emissary in his place, or a burning bush, but God wouldn’t make the trip in person. Lucifer is perplexed that God Johnson knew his given name, but Amenadiel reminds his brother of the internet’s power. Lucifer wonders if their father came to see what is happening on Earth, which is his favorite toy. Lucifer asks his brother if he’s going to miss Earth, particularly Maze. Amenadiel stays quiet.

Ella and Chloe discuss God Johnson and Ella wonders why it’s so hard to believe that God could be on earth, just like them. Chloe recites lyrics from “What if God Was One of Us” and Lucifer says he hates that song. Good thing, because Ella thinks God Johnson is the killer. The victim was bald and Ella got a complete set of prints from his head. They belong to God Johnson, a wealthy oil magnate from Texas. Lucifer says it should solve things quickly if God is found to be a murderer, but since Lucifer broke the rules and talked to him she has to wait a few days before she can talk to him.

Lucifer doesn’t want to wait that long, so he goes to the hospital to commit himself. Since the facility is at capacity he has to prove he’s a threat, so he attacks the receptionist just enough to earn his way inside.

Dan wants to know who stole his pudding. He turns and finds Charlotte there eating it. She needs a distraction from her troubles, but Dan tells her that he has a hands off policy. After last time, he’d rather be alone than with her, which only excites her even more.

Lucifer deals himself into an imaginary card game with some of the other patients and tries to get information about God Johnson, but no one has anything other than the fact that he was able to score an extra dessert. When Lucifer gets up to talk to God Johnson, he’s confronted by another johnson as a patient throws his underwear at Lucifer. Lucifer meets Dr. Garrity, who says they’ll talk later. Lucifer goes in search of God and finds him choking another patient. When Lucifer intervenes, the woman crashes to the floor and God insists that he must save her. He places his hands on her and the blood and wound disappear. Lucifer realizes that it really his God, and he punches him in the nose.

Chloe asks Lucifer why he got himself committed. She wants to get him out, but he says he’s undercover and he’s trying to resolve some personal issues with him. Chloe is shocked when Lucifer says this this might be his father. He talked to the woman who was attacked and she told him that the original culprit was Santa Claus.

Outside, Chloe tells Garrity that Lucifer has always been a little quirky but it has gone above and beyond lately. Garrity can’t discuss the specifics of Lucifer’s case, but he does ask her out to dinner. As he walks away, Maze calls her.

Lucifer goes to see God again, and God says that he can forgive Lucifer for punching him. God wants to know why Lucifer is upset with him. Lucifer runs through the litany of issues he has with his father, and it isn’t until he mentions that his mom is on Earth that God starts listening. He responds with the appropriate amount of shock upon hearing that Charlotte is there. He recalls the moment they met but Lucifer still wants his apology. His eyes flare up at the moment that Dr. Linda comes in to see him.

Chloe tells Maze about Garrity and Maze thinks that she should totally meet him. Maze had set up a booze cruise for them, but now Maze wants to set up the date with Garrity.

Ella jams out to “What If God Was One of Us” when Chloe races in and asks if it would be possible that Santa Claus murdered the first victim, and it turns out that Ella found white hair on the body. Chloe sees that there is a man with long white hair at the asylum. It could be their Santa Claus.

Lucifer wheels Dr. Linda from the room. She’s hyperventilating because she didn’t kneel before God, which is a big problem. Lucifer doesn’t like that she is being respectful to the man who punished him. As she babbles he comes up with a great plan to hurt him using God’s feelings for his mom.

Lucifer talks to the patients and tells them to go with their desires so that God and Lucifer can escape. As the asylum goes crazy, Lucifer and God walk through the day room and hide as the staff run by. Linda is there to break them out. She bows this time.

Maze helps Chloe get ready for her date, but then she turns the tables and says that their date will be at her house because that’s where the bedroom is. Chloe scoffs at this idea, but Maze is persistent. When someone knocks at the door, Maze answers, thinking that it’s Garrity, but instead she finds Amenadiel. Chloe says they’re not having an orgy, which confounds the heck out of Amenadiel.

Charlotte looks for Lucifer at Lux, but the bar is dark. Suddenly the lights come up and music starts playing. Lucifer and Linda peek out from behind the bar as God greets Charlotte and says she looks like the day they met. Lucifer explains to Linda that he’s trying to recreate their first date so that they will start fighting again. Charlotte even believes that it’s God, so she knees him in the groin for casting her into hell.

Garrity diplomatically says he likes the pizza even though he’s sandwiched between Maze and Amenadiel, who is lounging on the couch beside him like a big cat ready to pounce. Garrity asks where Maze is from and she replies “Hell,” which garners a raised eyebrow from the doctor. Amenadiel takes his last slice of pizza and Chloe apologizes for not cooking because she didn’t know Garrity was coming over for dinner. Chloe grabs Maze when Maze tells Garrity that her sheets are changed and she’s good to go, and then Chloe tells her that it’s all over. Maze calls for Amenadiel and they leave Chloe alone. Chloe asks Garrity to talk about his work. She’s eager to get their evening going.

Amenadiel watches Maze put the dishes in the dishwasher, and she asks if he’s there for sex. He says he wanted to see her before they left for Heaven, but then he sees that Lucifer hadn’t told her about their plans yet. Maze, needless to say, isn’t happy.

When Chloe asks Garrity if the guy who looks like Santa is one of the “violent ones” Garrity realizes that he might be set up. When he gets a call from work saying that Lucifer and God escaped, he knows it’s a setup.

Charlotte is furious that Lucifer brought God there. She wants to know what he’s doing on Earth and Lucifer says that maybe they don’t have to leave now. Charlotte can’t help but be charmed by God, and she apologizes for sending plagues to his little toy. They dance, and they kiss. While they’re kissing Chloe arrives with the police.

Chloe returns Lucifer to the hospital and she wants to know how Charlotte fits into all of this. Lucifer asks about Santa Claus, but then the nurse arrives with meds and Lucifer is elated to take it. Next, she visits Garrity and apologizes. Fortunately, he forgives her and looks the other way while she looks through the patient file. They go to the locker where the Santa costume is stored and find that the hat and beard are missing.

Lucifer looks in the mirror and discovers that the meds are stronger this time. Santa comes into the room and he admits he was being naughty. Santa knocks him in the head with a pan.

Santa wheels Lucifer down the hallway and Santa tells Lucifer that he’s delusional. Lucifer runs into his father, who is also in the room. God knows that Santa is the daughter of the patient God saved earlier. Chloe and Garrity find out the killer’s identity as well and go off to find her. While the nurse goes on about drugging her mother and making her crazy, God and Lucifer have a moment. Lucifer finally gets what he has been wanting: His father says he’s proud of him. When Chloe arrives and stops the evil nurse, Lucifer says he has never been better. However, when the orderlies remove God’s belt, God forgets who he is. Lucifer sees the buckle on the belt and realizes what it is.

Later, Lucifer shows Amenadiel that the buckle fits over the blade perfectly. Azrael had told Lucifer “the piece is here” before he died. Lucifer assumed that his brother was saying “peace” but evidently it was “piece.” Now that they have this information, they want to show their mother. But where is Charlotte?

Charlotte knocks on Dan’s door. She tells him that she kissed a man thinking it was her ex-husband but then realized that it wasn’t him. Dan doesn’t understand why she’s there, but she needs some cuddling. With his pants off. He lets her inside.

Lucifer meets with “God” who can’t believe he gave his money away. He had found the buckle in New Mexico, and then he found himself in the hospital. As “God” drives away he asks Lucifer if he’s still angry with his father, and Lucifer says he’s “bloody furious.”

Lucifer airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on Fox.
