The Seahawks are interested in Colin Kaepernick but should Kaepernick be interested in the Seahawks?

Colin Kaepernick, the controversial 29-year-old quarterback, is still searching for a home for the upcoming NFL season. Recent rumors have linked him to the Seattle Seahawks where even a current player, defensive end Michael Bennett, has stated that Seattle would be a “perfect fit” according to an ESPN report.

While the Seahawks have an established starting quarterback in Russell Wilson, they lack reliable depth at the position. Second-year players, Jake Heaps and Trevon Boykin, who has been arrested twice during the offseason, are the only other quarterbacks on the roster.

While Wilson has been able to play all 16 games in each of his first five seasons, he played through a knee injury last year. Wilson and the Seahawks may have been more willing for him to miss a game to heal if they had a reliable backup. Kaepernick has a similar game to Wilson and would fit in nicely with the read-option offense.

So, with interest from the Seahawks side, is it really a good fit from Kaepernick’s perspective? By signing with Seattle, Kaepernick would be admitting that he is no longer a capable starter in the NFL, an admission tough to make. He performed well for the 49ers after taking over behind center the last 12 games of the season.

Kaepernick posted 2,241 passing yards with 16 touchdown passes and just four interceptions while running for another 468 yards on the ground with two touchdowns. With a variety of teams still lacking an NFL-caliber starting quarterback, Kaepernick may choose to hold out until a potential starting gig creates itself either before or even during the season.

Kaepernick would be a good fit for the Seahawks, but he may not be ready to take a knee on his opportunity to find a starting job in the NFL.
