With a win over Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup, Celtic clinched the impossible.

Led by former Liverpool manager Brendon Rodgers, Celtic finished the season undefeated and won each of the three domestic trophies. This was Rodgers’s first season with the squad.

The three trophies that the Glasgow side had to win were the Premiership, which they won by 30 points, the League Cup and Saturday’s Scottish Cup.

Never before has a team achieved this feat. The team that came closest was Rangers way back in 1899, according to Stephen Halliday of The Scotsman. Their chances were ruined in the final of the Scottish Cup when Celtic won by a score of 2-0. The 2016-2017 team was able to avoid any such fate with a 2-1 victory over a streaking Aberdeen team that had won five of their last six games coming into Saturday.

This is the fourth time Celtic have won the Scottish domestic treble. They haven’t won the Cup since 2013.

Fans were nervous after Celtic went down 1-0 in the early stages of the match. However, Stuart Armstrong answered instantly with an 11th-minute drive into the bottom corner.

The match became controversial when one of Celtic’s best defenders, Kieran Tierney, fell to injury in the 20th minute. Tierney believed that he was deliberately struck by Aberdeen striker Jayden Stockley.

Neither team would score again until the final moments of the fixture. Tom Rogic was the hero with a goal in extra time to deliver his team with a historic season. Rogic was the substitute when Tierney had to come out for his injury.

Celtic have long been the best team in Scotland. This win allowed them to lift the Scottish Cup for an unbelievable 37th time. In 2016-2017, they won 43 matches without a loss in domestic play with just four draws in league play.
