Was P.K. Subban lying about Sidney Crosby saying he has bad breath? According to Sid The Kid, he is.

Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins saw both sides get a little bit chippy. This included stars Sidney Crosby and P.K. Subban. After Saturday’s game, the two exchanged words, and those words likely weren’t friendly.

During a postgame interview on NBCSN, Subban claimed Crosby told him he had bad breath. The Predators defenseman joked he used Listerine before the game and his breath smelled great. On Sunday, Crosby was asked questions about Subban’s claim. Sid The Kid wasn’t in a joking mood.

“Yeah, he made that up. I didn’t say that,” said Crosby, via Yahoo Sports. “He likes the attention.”

This controversy already has the perfect name – Colgate. It’s one of the weirdest controversies to come out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in recent years. Last year in the Finals, San Jose Sharks center Logan Couture accused Crosby of cheating during faceoffs. Obviously, the Penguins captain denied the allegations, but they wound up being true. However, to be fair, just about any successful center in the NHL cheats in some way, shape or form.

Game 4 should be very interesting. Will the Penguins frustration from the third period of Game 3 carry over? Pittsburgh played very undisciplined in the final 20 minutes, allowing the Predators to jump out to a 5-1 lead. While Subban didn’t get any points, the former Montreal Canadiens blue liner led Nashville in ice time. P.K. is getting matched against Crosby’s forward line, so this controversy isn’t going away anytime soon.

Meanwhile, Sid The Kid had a poor game on Saturday. He didn’t get any shots on goal, which is quite rare for him. Nashville will look to tie the series on Monday, June 5.
