The new man behind the Lakers curtain, Magic Johnson, absolutely subtweeted the Paul George free agency WojBomb.

Paul George is going to leave the Indiana Pacers when his contract is up in 2018.

That’s been a statement that isn’t new to anyone, but hasn’t yet received a full stop at the end. It’s been a whisper then a rumor and then a heavily speculated conclusion to George’s tenure in Indiana.

Even Sunday’s report from Adrian Wojnarowski that sources informed him George is leaving isn’t totally gospel — it’s pretty close though.

One man who has been beating the Paul George free agency drum is Magic Johnson, the man tasked with fixing the Lakers. Magic directly benefits from George hitting free agency since the Pacers star has long desired to be a Lakers star. The Lakers want Paul George, and now it appears they’re going to get him.

That’s why it’s of no surprise that Magic absolutely subtweeted the news that George wants to leave the Pacers in 2018 and join the Lakers.

Johnson has gone on everything from late night talk shows to radio shows in order to stir the pot. He’s probably got a whole bunch of fake message board accounts to make sure there was no stone unturned in his poisoning of the water in Indiana.

It’s not like Johnson’s late game pursuit of George actually turned the tide. It may have been the cherry on top, but the sundae was made well before Johnson ever got involved. George has made it no secret that he hasn’t been happy in Indiana with anything. Off the top of my head, George has complained about:

  • The fans being fair weather
  • The front office not consulting on trades and signings
  • Not getting the final shot to win the game
  • Probably something about Indiana’s nightlife versus Los Angeles

The bottom line is, Magic’s wish is coming true. There’s still a year between now and George’s contract expiring. Barring some massive injury (again) to George, all the Lakers have to do is watch time bleed out on the Pacers and then sign him without giving up any assets at all in the summer of 2018.
