Gennady “GGG” Golovkin is (wisely) expecting to take some bumps on September 16 against Canelo Alvarez.

While most of the talk in the boxing world right now surrounds the crossover fight on August 26 between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, the fact remains that the biggest boxing match of the year will take place on September 16, as Gennady “GGG” Golovkin will finally battle Canelo Alvarez for the middleweight championship.

Golovkin (37-0, 33 KO), has been waiting a while for this showdown with Alvarez, while dominating the scene with his immense punching power, as the aforementioned record shows. However, despite the dominance in most of his wins, no one is denying GGG is in for the toughest fight of his career against Alvarez.

He knows that, too. Golovkin and Alvarez are currently on a promotional tour for their upcoming battle, and when asked by Luke Thomas on Sirius XM whether or not he expects to be “marked up” by the powerful Canelo, GGG wisely acknowledged that he will more than likely come out of this fight with some bruises he didn’t have when he went into it.

GGG is one of the more powerful punchers we have ever seen, however, Canelo is maybe equally as powerful. But that is what has made people yearn to see these two go at one another for so long. The expectation for this middleweight title showdown is that it will be nothing more than a classic slugfest between two of the best power punchers of this era.

When all is said and done on September 16 in Las Vegas, there is a good chance GGG will walk out of Las Vegas still undefeated and the undisputed middleweight champion of the world. But he’s smart enough to know that, against someone like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, he’ll have the battle scars to show what he had to go through to get there.
