NFL roundup: Kansas City Chiefs name Brett Veach GM

As we draw closer to the 2017 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs finally named someone to take on the general manager role.

The Kansas City Chiefs let go of general manager John Dorsey, as he was relieved of his duties after the 2017 NFL Draft. On Monday, the team announced that internal candidate Brett Veach would be taking over those duties and he is more than deserving of the job. Veach has been with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid since their days in Philadelphia, and he recently served as the co-director of player personnel for the team.

Staying in the AFC West, it looks like Demaryius Thomas would like to stay in the news. A few days after stating he would like the team’s QB battle to be done by Week 2 of the preseason, Thomas told the media how much longer he feels he has left in the game. Thomas told the team’s official site that he has “a few good years left,” and feels like he is in the best shape of his career. The Broncos have question marks on offense this season, but they have the defense to make a run at the division title.

Pierre Garcon left the Washington Redskins this offseason to head west to play for the San Francisco 49ers, though he is still talking about his former team. The wide receiver has no idea why the team has not locked up quarterback Kirk Cousins to a long-term deal, calling him “the guy who helped us to all those playoff runs.” The Cousins saga is no longer his problem, as he looks to help a 49ers franchise who has fallen on hard times in recent years.

The New York Giants signed Rashad Jennings in hopes that he would be the answer for the team at running back, but he instead had one of the worst seasons of his career. Jennings rushed for only 593 yards last season, though he did follow it up with a win on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars. The eight-year veteran thinks he will sign with someone before the season begins, and in a league where running backs are consistently grabbed on the free agent market, he should be able to find work this summer.

Finally, Todd Marinovich is looking to make a comeback. Yes, you read that right, as the 48-year-old former first round pick is looking to win the starting quarterback job with the SoCal Coyotes of the World Developmental Football League. Marinovich has dealt with drug issues since his days at the University of Southern California, but has apparently been sober since being found naked with drugs less than one year ago.
