New Oklahoma City Thunder forward Paul George is already at work with his new team. His first item on the agenda is relationship counselor.

Coming to a new team can put a lot of pressure on a player. When you are replacing a star player it is even harder. But, what Paul George is having to do is stressful. Not only is he new to the team, and the best replacement for Kevin Durant, he is fixing reports about the relationship between Durant and Russell Westbrook.

It is well documented. Durant left the Oklahoma City Thunder for greener pastures with the Golden State Warriors. The breakup between him and running mate Russell Westbrook was the topic of conversation all season. And it was recently a focal point of a joke by Peyton Manning during the ESPYs earlier this week.

According to Adam Kemp, columnist for The Oklahoman, George commented on the tarnished relationship in an interview with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The interview cycled through several questions, including Durant’s role with the team and competing with the Warriors.

It is interesting that a question about the rift between former teammates would be presented, but good drama demands a sequel. But, if you listen to George, all is right with the pair now. “They are buddies,” or so he says.

Honestly, it does not matter what George thinks about their relationship. He is not the third-wheel, or the rebound. He is there to win and compete for a championship. George is there to help carry some of the load that Westbrook was burdened with last season. And, while Westbrook flourished, the team fizzled.

The addition of George is a great addition to the team. But, I guess being a public relations agent for the Durant and Westbrook relationship is part of the job.
