Lonzo Ball confused everyone by switching shoes throughout the last few games of the Summer League, and the Trail Blazers threw some shade for the move.

Lonzo Ball’s shoes have become a dominant topic of conversation over the last week of the NBA Summer League, and it’s mainly been because of him not wearing Big Baller Brand.

Ball switched things up when he stepped onto the court for the Los Angeles Lakers last week, when he wore bright purple Nike shoes in honor of Kobe Bryant. The move worked, as he put up 36 points, 11 assists, 8 rebounds and 5 steals in the game.

The Lakers rookie went through the rounds with adidas, Under Armour and Jordan all getting some love through the next three games. The move was questionable considering the investment into the Big Baller Brand, and caught the attention of pretty much everyone in the NBA, including the Portland Trail Blazers.

Before the Trail Blazers game against the Lakers on Monday night, they took to Twitter to poke some fun at Ball, and praised one of their own players, Jake Layman, for staying loyal to one brand of shoe throughout the Summer League.

Obviously Layman isn’t as big of a name as Ball is, but he’s been putting on some great performances on the floor this summer for the Trail Blazers. He dropped 21 points in the second half alone in a game on Saturday night to help Portland advance to the Summer League semifinals, and had 13 in the fourth quarter.

Layman may be superstitious and not want to change his shoes after such a solid showing, while Ball now may feel the opposite and have to switch out shoes frequently to keep things fresh with his play.

In the end, the real loser here is the Big Baller Brand, who gets no love from anyone on the court.
