Report: Hugh Freeze’s job in jeopardy after new Ole Miss information
By Jack Crosby
Some speculated that this might be the last year for Hugh Freeze at OIe Miss, but the end might be coming sooner rather than later
During the recent SEC Media Days, one of the most talked about topics was the situation surrounding Hugh Freeze and the Ole Miss Rebels. With all of the NCAA drama surrounding the program at the moment, the belief is that this season would be the end of the Freeze tenure in Oxford, as everything seems to be coming crashing down.
Well, the end may be coming sooner than a lot of people expected.
According to Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports, some new information regarding the program has come to light, and because of this newfound information, Freeze’s job is in immediate jeopardy. Whatever has come out most recently could indeed spell the end of Hugh Freeze as head coach o the Ole Miss Rebels before the 2017 season even gets underway.
Hit by a myriad of NCAA violations recently, the school placed themselves on self-imposed sanctions for this upcoming season, which included a bowl ban. Sometimes that’s enough to escape the death grip of the NCAA and sometimes it’s not, but if more has come out about the tenure of Freeze in Oxford that is less than favorable, then there is no escaping the hammer coming crashing down.
Freeze long defended that the violations did not come under his watch, and Ole Miss was even hit with a defamation lawsuit by former head coach Houston Nutt, who believed that most of the blame was unjustly being thrown on him. Some believed this to be the case and some didn’t, but eventually, the truth comes to light.
There’s no word yet on what this new information actually is, but apparently it’s enough to send Freeze out the door earlier than he expected.
