The Great Khali came back to WWE on Sunday night at Battleground, helping Jinder Mahal keep his WWE title against Randy Orton.

Jinder Mahal needed all of the help he could get inside of the Punjabi Prison at WWE Battleground on Sunday night, and apparently that included the creator of the match himself: The Great Khali.

Mahal originally planned on working as a lone wolf for the match, with the Singh Brothers pledging to stay away from the huge structure in respect to the behemoth. He walked alone to the ring, and it looked like we would get a one-on-one battle between Mahal and Orton, finally.

However, we quickly found out that wasn’t the case, as the Singh Brothers worked their way into the structure and went to work on Orton to give their boss some breathing room and attempt to help Mahal retain his belt.

Orton fought off everything, using steel chairs, kendo sticks and even launching one of the Singh Brothers off the top of the cage through a table to get some space. However, the second he looked like he was about to win, Khali appeared and came after Orton.

Khali came down as Orton hit the top of the cage, and the creator of the match shook the entire structure to get Orton off balance. He then scaled the wall, choked out Orton with his right hand and gave Mahal a clear path to victory.

It looks like Mahal recruited some extra help to get the job done in case the Singh Brothers weren’t enough for his title defense. However, we don’t know if Khali’s return was a one-off to help in the match he made back when he was dominating on SmackDown, or if he’s a permanent part of the operation now.

Either way, it looks like we’ll have more Mahal-Orton battles in the future, but a new pawn, and a big pawn at that, has been added to the game for The Viper to deal with.
