For the first time since 2014, Nike and Jordan Brand will honor Derek Jeter, aka The Captain, with two new sneaker releases.

On Wednesday, July 26, Jordan Brand will be releasing two new “Derek Jeter” inspired Air Jordans and — you’re not gonna believe this — they’re also launching Jeter RE2PECT slides too!

That’s right. Eat your heart out, Lavar Ball.

But first things first. As you may recall, the last round of Jeter Jordans also came in the form of Air Jordan Retro 1s back in 2014, which now fetch anywhere from $750 to $900.

Here’s a look to refresh your memory.

While the pinstripe treatment along the top made them feel a little too “Go Yankees” for my taste, the shoe certainly housed a premium feel.

An obvious example of that would be the Jumpman logo on the tongue being replaced by a gold Jeter logo.

What they’re releasing this week to honor The Captain simply feels like a dark blue Air Jordan 1 with white stitching.

And, well, that’s basically what this iteration is: A dark blue Air Jordan 1.

That’s it.

Nothing else.

There’s zero premium feel and nothing that even says “Jeter,” which may be why these are nowhere to be found on the Nike SNKRS launch calendar.

It also explains the price point of $110.

So what’s the point?

I honestly have no idea. I can’t even make the excuse that these will be an instant sellout solely because of Jeter’s name.

Of all the releases over the past year or so, this feels like one of Nike’s laziest attempts at a money grab.

If it actually works, you can fully expect more half-assed garbage to soon follow.

All hope is not lost, however. As previously mentioned, RE2PECT slides are also being released and they’re only $50.

Yay!

Last and absolutely least is the release of the Jordan Lunar Grind “RE2PECT” trainer that I can confidently say is NOT worth looking at.

But if you must, go ahead and take a gander right here and here.

Having said all of that, if you must indulge, all three releases can be had at Eastbay on Wednesday, July 26, at 10 am EDT.
