Here’s how you can watch the fourth episode of Snowfall, aptly titled “Trauma” online?

I have a theory. Snowfall was advertised and sold to viewers as chronicling the rise of the crack cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles. But I don’t think that’s what it is about at all. Rather, I believe the true message of the series will be about the seductive power of money.

The major protagonist, Franklin, began as a pretty innocent kid. He attended a good school and was not aware of the drug-addled underworld at all in the series premiere. He was only interested in the drugs because of their potential to net him some profit. The ease in which he gained money in the first episode drove him further into the world. IN the second episode he was used as kind of a getaway driver to drop a kid who had overdosed at the hospital. Though he questioned it, he saw it through, and the kid did get help eventually.

Frankin’s money was taken from him in the end of episode 2, and so he spent a large part of the third episode scheming to get it back. The circumstances of the eventual encounter between Franklin and the man who had robbed him illustrated the change that had come over Franklin just because of the money.

He enlisted some ‘muscle’ to help him recover his money in the forms of a friend of his, and a colleague of that friend. He then couldn’t do anything but watch as the man who had robbed him was beaten, threatened with both a knife and a gun, and eventually raped. In the end, the man gave up where he had hidden Franklin’s money, but Franklin didn’t get it back. His friend and the colleague took it. Franklin was left with the man that had just been beaten and raped, but instead of calling for help he just left the man tied up.

Teddy also dealt with the corrupting power of money, but in a different way. He was working to assure the success of US government backed forces in a far away war. He had managed to find weapons for them, but they were too easily connected to the U.S. government. He proposed a rather labor intensive way to eliminate this threat. The man he was buying them from cooperated so he would not lose the money he had put into the deal. However, when Teddy skipped out to visit with his young son, the man packed up everything and made off with it. The money motivated this man to work with Teddy, but a combination of (felt) betrayal and the opportunity to sell the guns elsewhere drew him to steal them.

The lone character who stuck to his moral compass in the third episode was Gustavo. He had essentially volunteered to kill whoever Lucia wanted, with one caveat: no families. The others took this as ‘no children’ and gave him a target. Gustavo went to the house but refused to kill the man when he realized the man was married, even to another man. When the men who gave him the job were surprised because he was ‘just a pinch’ Gustavo replied that he had specified no families.

I am glad that it seems like episode 4 will actually address some of the consequences from these events. Titled ‘Trauma,’ the

synopsis

for the episode reads:

"Franklin and Leon deal with the thief; Teddy goes to extreme measures to protect the CIA; and Lucia and Gustavo connect in the aftermath of the previous night."
