The game looked over after a late interception by LSU’s Grant Delpit, but Texas A&M stormed back to win the game of the year in seven overtimes.

It was over. Then it wasn’t.

LSU’s Grant Delpit looked to pick off a Kellen Mond pass, ending the game, but the Texas A&M quarterback’s elbow was ruled down before the impressive interception.

Tigers coach Ed Orgeron had already been doused with Gatorade and the Tigers were getting ready to celebrate, but things changed in an instant. The ball was put back into the hands of the Aggies and with just one second left, Mond hit Quartney Davis in the end zone for the tying score, sending the game into overtime.

The score at that point was 31-31. No one expected what would come next.

The Tigers and Aggies battled it out for seven more overtimes, trading two-point conversions and misses until LSU missed theirs in the seventh extra frame, giving the Aggies a chance to win it. And win it they did on another clutch throw by Mond and huge reception by Kendrick Rogers.

This seemed to be the game that would never end and most college football fans with no plans on Sunday wish it never did.

Jimbo Fisher recorded his first true signature win at Texas A&M, beating the No. 7 team in the country and likely knocking the Tigers from a New Year’s Six bowl — though that’s still possible for Orgeron and Co.

This also happened to be the highest combined final score in FBS history, totaling 146 points. This ties the longest game in FBS history, becoming the fifth game to go to seven overtimes and is the Aggies’ first win over LSU since joining the SEC, snapping a seven-game skid.

If you turned the game off after the Delpit “interception” that looked to end it, you probably looked at the score on your phone and thought it was a typo.

College football fans deserved a send-off to the 2018 regular season with a game like this and the Aggies and Tigers didn’t disappoint after 1,017 combines yards, 197 combined points, seven overtime periods and a game that took 4:53 to end.

So much for a defensive battle.
