Which SEC football team is the biggest threat to the Alabama Crimson Tide?

Who will challenge the Alabama Crimson Tide on the SEC football gridiron this year?

While it will be a season unlike any other, as it will probably be a conference-only slate this fall, Alabama has a reputation to uphold as the preeminent dynasty in the SEC. Though the Crimson Tide didn’t even win the SEC West last year, Nick Saban’s football program has made it to the College Football Playoff in five of the last six years for a reason. They are simply better than you.

But it’s not just the Crimson Tide for why the SEC has asserted itself as the best college football conference for well over a decade. Even if Alabama loses two conference games like it did a season ago, this Power 5 conference is always capable of having an incredible representative in the playoff as its conference champion. Look at the 2019 LSU Tigers if you have any doubts.

While the Bayou Bengals gave us one of the greatest single seasons college football has ever seen, Joe Burrow now plays in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals. LSU lost an absurd amount of talent to the league as well. Though LSU retains a bunch of talent, as well as reloaded, there’s a reason most people aren’t picking Ed Orgeron’s team to win in Atlanta in back-to-back seasons.

So what we’re going to do is power rank the entire SEC. There are as many as six teams with strong to semi-realistic shots at making the College Football Playoff, as well as four new head coaches at the helm of other schools. Of course, there may be a handful of program builders firmly on the hot seat. Let’s get cracking and see how the SEC stacks up in mid-July 2020.

Here are the heart of the offseason SEC football power rankings for 2020.
