When the 2012 Golf season ended last year at the DP World Tour Championships, Dubai, Rory McIlroy was the man! He won everything in Professional Golf except the FedEx Cup Championship. He was ranked number one in the Official World Golf Rankings(OWGR), he won the Race To Dubai, the Money title on both tours, and he had the lowest scoring average on both tours. He won the Harry Vardon Trophy, and the prestigious Byron Nelson Award. Then he became the world’s number one tennis fan. That title doesn’t earn status or money in Professional Golf on any tour.

It was announced today that the two-year relationship with Professional Tennis star, Caroline Wozniacki was coming to an end, and the 24 year-old was turning his attention back to his golf career.

This tweet was named as the source of the breakup.

The Belfast Daily filed this report today and say that McIlroy called this invasion of his privacy a “mean picture”.

"Friends say one of the last straws came last month when Wozniacki posted this embarrassing picture on Twitter of McIlroy fast asleep with the message: ‘Jetlag? Lol!!’A source told the Sunday Independent: ‘Yes they are over. It’s a difficult time for them both but it is for the best in the long run.’The paper said the split came days after Wozniacki last month posted an embarrassing picture online of the two-time major winner asleep with the message: ‘Jetlag? Lol!!’.One source said: ‘Rory was very upset by it and even Serena Williams pointed out – albeit in a joking way – it was a pretty mean thing to do.’"

Maybe now the young Ulstermen can get back to what made him famous in the first place, his golf game. If he will take the time to get his swing, and golf game honed in again, he might well become a factor as we approach the 2014 season. McIlroy has dropped to sixth place in the World Rankings, and I think he has the game to compete for the top spot again if he can get his game together.

Many people around golf have targeted Rory’s change to Nike Equipment as the source of his woes, but I have written for six month that I felt his lack of dedication to the game has been the problem. Now we will get to see if I was right!
