Those who felt “Bezerk,” Eminem’s first single off his upcoming The Marshall Mathers LP 2, was a bit underwhelming (raises hand) should be pleased by the just-released single “Rap God.” Sure, the beat isn’t exactly great, but it’s hard to be mad when Eminem is rapping for six minutes like this (lyrics may be NSFW):

It will be interesting to see how The Marshall Mathers LP 2, one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2013, sounds in comparison to Eminem’s last few solo projects. While 2010’s Recovery sold an amazing amount of units, the production and choice of guests left a lot to be desired for some of Eminem’s older fans. Songs like “Won’t Back Down,” “Not Afraid,” and “Love the Way You Lie” were all monster singles, but their blatant pop-radio appeal could be seen as a turn off. 2009’s Relapse was an undeniable rapping clinic, there’s no way around it, but the accent Eminem adopted for the project made repeat listens difficult.

So what do you think, FanSided hip hop fans? How excited are you for The Marshall Mathers LP 2? What are you impression of “Rap God” upon first (or second or third) listen? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
