On Tuesday morning, top international prospect Dante Exum announced his plans to declare for the 2014 NBA Draft and teams started to get themselves into a frenzy. While most fans in America have been hearing about college players like Joel Embiid, Jabari Parker and Andrew Wiggins dominating the top of the draft, the draft declaration from Exum means a new frontrunner atop the draft may have emerged.

Many fans may not understand the hype about a teenager from Australia declaring for the NBA Draft, but not every teenager from Australia is compared to Kyrie Irving and Damian Lillard. Yannis Koutroupis of Basketball Insiders explained in a recent piece that fans had best get familiar with Exum as the draft approaches.

“As far as point guard prospects go, Exum is on par with some of the best to come across in recent years, including Michael Carter-Williams, Trey Burke and even Kyrie Irving and Damian Lillard.”

Koutroupis isn’t alone in his analysis of Exum, as even ESPN’s Chad Ford has Exum ranked as the best point guard prospect coming into the draft this year.
