The Dallas Cowboys front office spent the last few weeks cleaning up a contractual mess that forced the team to rework some of their current contracts to get themselves under the cap.

All of that work delayed a potential extension with wide receiver Dez Bryant, but according to owner Jerry Jones, the two sides have exchanged numbers on a new deal.

"Now, he’s entering the final year of a five-year, $11.8 million contract with a base salary of $1.78 million this season. Jones indicates the Cowboys have exchanged numbers with Bryant and his representative about an extension. But he stops short of confirming whether it’s with Bryant or Tyron Smith, another young star who is part of the team’s future."

There’s understandable concern regarding Bryant’s back, but Jones says it will not play a role in the contractual negotiations.

Bryant is coming into the final season of his five-year, $11.8 million dollar contract.

There’s no word on when a deal would be completed, though, it does not appear to be imminent at this time.
