Many people have said that after Ryan Dempster was finished with his playing career that he could easily transition into an on-air role. Nobody thought it would come this soon, though.

After making a surprise announcement in Spring Training that he would be taking 2014 as a year away from playing baseball and subsequently forgoing his salary from the Red Sox, Dempster has now joined MLB Network. Chris de Luca of the Chicago Sun-Times first reported the news that the 36-year old righty from British Columbia will be the Network’s newest analyst.

de Luca goes on to say that Dempster’s debut on the network will be on Wednesday afternoon as MLB Network covers Wrigley Field’s 100th Anniversary game live in Chicago. The Cubs will be hosting the Diamondbacks at 12:20 EST.
