NFL Draft Rumors: Texans asking for Robert Griffin III style trade for No. 1 pick

For months now we’ve been hearing that the No. 1 pick is for sale, but that doesn’t mean it’s on sale. The Houston Texans have apparently made that abundantly clear as Ed Werder from ESPN is reporting that the asking price for the top pick is astronomically high.

Werder mentioned on a live report for SportsCenter that the Texans would deb willing to move the No. 1 overall pick if the team could secure a trade similar to the one the St. Louis Rams got back in 2012 when the Washington Redskins traded up to draft Robert Griffin III.

That’s not something that teams are too keen on doing as they’ve seen how much it’s handicapped the Redskins while RGIII struggles to settle into things. Still, Jadeveon Clowney is viewed as can’t miss prospect and there might be someone willing to trade up to get him. The Atlanta Falcons have been the most closely connected team to Clowney but they’re no guarantee to trade up — especially at this price.

Houston knows what they have though and they aren’t going to hand it away to someone out of the goodness in their heart. The Texans may keep the pick but if the trade it, they’ll be asking for significant return.
