NFL Draft results 2014: Tennessee Titans select Zach Mettenberger with No. 178 pick
By Josh Hill
The Tennessee Titans ere expected to take a quarterback with one of their picks in this draft and they did exactly that, although it technically wasn’t their pick. The Titans traded up to draft LSU quarterback Zach Mattenberger who is coming off of an ACL injury and will be licking the wounds of falling into the sixth round of the draft.
There were some serious questions about Mettenberger coming into the draft as a diluted urine sample and his ACL injury, as eel as a medical red flag for a back condition, caused teams to be weary of picking him at any point in the draft.
Some experts had a second round projection for Mettenberger but he dropped out of the top 175 picks and ended up free falling into the sixth round. The quarterback free fall wasn’t exclusive to Mettenberger though, as Johnny Manziel fell from the top of the draft to No. 22 and both Aaron Murray and A.J. McCarron were back-to-back fifth round selections.
The Titans had concerns about Mettenberger and tried to downplay interest, but they now have the LSU gunslinger and Ken Whisenhunt has his quarterback project.
