Another film making an early digital debut is the Colin Firth film The Railway Man. Railway tells the true story of a former British soldier who was tortured by the Japanese during WWII. He learns that the man who tortured him is still alive and ventures on a journey to confront him. The film will be available on DVD and Blu-ray next week.

While those two films make their digital world debut a few movies are making their hard copy dvd/blu-ray debut today and those films are led by Divergent.

Divergent is based on a series of novels that started with the novel of the same name. In a future society following a devastating war, a civilized city of survivors have been divided into numerous sections based on several attributes of their personality and choosing. Once they have joined these “sections” they are to avoid mingling with members of the other sections.

The film made just over $150 million at the box office and sported a relatively unknown starring cast that included Shailene Woodley and Theo James with a much more recognizable supporting cast of Ashley Judd and Kate Winslet. The film is the first in a three series arc.

The Need for Speed also makes it’s home debut today in hard copy. The film surrounds a street racer who is released from prison after being jailed for a crime he didn’t commit and then goes after the person responsible for his incarceration. The film stars Aaron Paul and Dakota Johnson with supporting roles from Dominic Cooper and Michael Keaton.

Occulus comes home to the video market and is sure to make you squirm a bit in your chair. Horror fans have been waiting for the haunted “mirror” tale to make it to home video. The film stars Karen Gillan and James Lafferty.
