US Open 2014 results: Marin Cilic destroys Kei Nishikori

The US Open is now behind us in 2014 and both the Men and Women’s titles have been claimed. On the women’s side of things, there was a familiar face who took home the trophy but on the mens side of the court, a new face claimed a title in the most dominating of ways.

After upsetting his way into the US Open Final, Kei Nishikori wasn’t able to finish off his miracle run and instead ran int a buzzsaw in Marin Cilic. It was hardly even close, as Marin Cilic crushed Kei Nishikori 6-3 6-3 6-3 to win the U.S. Open on Monday for his first grand slam title.

But while were robbed of an amazing story in the Cinderella favorite Nishikori, Cilic’s story is just as interesting. A year ago, Cilic was banned from the US Open following a failed drug test, but a year later he has picked himself back up and reclaimed glory in the most unexcited of ways.

Cilic is just 25-years old ans joins the company of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray as players to have won the US Open at or under the age of 25. It’s amazing company to be in and after his dominating win at the US Open, it’s safe to say we will be seeing a lot more of Cilic in the years and tournaments to come.
