While it may have just been celebrities harmed by the iCloud breach, a new massive breach of Snapchat images could reach much further.
Snapchat users are sitting in fear of their once private pictures becoming very public. In the last day, a collection of some 200,000 photos has said to have been breached, and is set to be leaked. Thanks to a third-party application, normally disappearing pictures now seem to have been hacked.

At this time it is not yet known which third-party application is at fault for the breach, but links have been made to applications called SnapSave and SnapSaved.
While nothing has yet been made public, Snapchat has gotten out in front of the breach and is trying to distance themselves. Snapchat released a statement saying:
“We can confirm that Snapchat’s servers were never breached and were not the source of these leaks. Snapchatters were victimized by their use of third-party apps to send and receive Snaps, a practice that we expressly prohibit in our Terms of Use precisely because they compromise our users’ security. We vigilantly monitor the App Store and Google Play for illegal third-party apps and have succeeded in getting many of these removed.”
At this point, it is not known what sort of involvement Snapchat plans to have in the process or if they will go after the pictures at all.
The breach is being dubbed the “Snappening” after an iCloud breach earlier this year was named the “Fappening.” Supposedly, the 200,000 some pictures are being compiled before they release on October 12. 4Chan, one of the websites that hosted the celebrity iCloud breach pictures, had the following exchange in regards to the event:
It appears that while some of the pictures are racy but not explicit, others are definitely NSFW.
With yet another breach of information that is claimed to be held private, a resounding theme is starting to become apparent. Know that everything is traceable, and don’t put yourself in a situation where something could come back to haunt you.
