There are plenty of versions of the bible, both the New Testament and the Old Testament.

That’s why it comes as no surprise that another person wants to translate it again.

However, the way he wants to translate it is a bit of a surprise.

Kamron Kastle wants to translate the bible completely into emojis. He has launched a kick starter in order to raise $25,000 for the project. Thus far, things aren’t going all that well – he has raised just $14 with 16 days left.

Kastle is designing a few of his own emojis – he has invented emojis for both Jesus and the parting of the red sea and will likely have to design several more. Kastle says the whole process is rather easy.

”It involves reading the Bible… and simply translating it line by line,” Kastle told Vice. “I read a line and then figure out which emoticons I should use to represent that Biblical verse. I chose not to use standard emojis because there are a limited number of characters. I just invented a lot of my own. I had to. There are too few emojis for Biblical purposes.”

Another reason Kastle has taken up this task?

“In the future, I believe lots of places/things/people will use emoticons so that people who speak other languages will be able to comprehend something,” Kastle explained. “The most common international symbol might be the cross for churches, or the red cross for hospitals. Red crosses are used in hospitals all over the world, and every culture understands what a red cross means. In World War II, medics wore red crosses and neither the Nazis nor the Allies killed them, regardless of what side they were on.”
