While the Detroit Lions have a handful of running backs who can easily get to the outside, going through the middle has proven to be a bit more difficult this season.
Of course when you have a healthy Joique Bell, that becomes a lot easier and the running back proved such today against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
With the Lions nursing a four-point lead in the second quarter, quarterback Matthew Stafford could have opted to go to Golden Tate or Calvin Johnson for a fade route. But it’s possible the Bucs were thinking the same thing, so Detroit decided to take it right into the heart of the defense.
Poor decision? Well, it looked that way at first as Joique Bell appeared to be stuffed and short of the goal line. But as any good, powerful running back will do, Bell kept his feet churning and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers front seven couldn’t contain the running back who continued to push forward.
The end result? This impressive Marshawn Lynch-like touchdown.
No, Bell didn’t drag multiple defenders on his back for the touchdown like we’ve seen Lynch do, but he looked as if he hit a stone wall coming out of the backfield and could have easily given up. The extra effort paid off though with a nasty and tough touchdown.
