29. Priest Holmes

Although Priest Holmes’ rushing totals don’t exactly stack up very well against the league’s best, Holmes was one of the best running backs I’ve ever seen.

After spending his first four seasons with the Ravens, one as a starter, Holmes was replaced by Jamal Lewis and signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. Holmes was the best running back in the league over the next four seasons. Holmes was an All-Pro three times during his time with the Chiefs and set the record for touchdowns with 27 in 2003. The record has been broken several times since, but Holmes was the most successful running back in NFL history for a short time.

Holmes’ career was dramatically shortened by major injuries. After setting the touchdown record in 2003, Holmes played 15 games combined in 2004 and 2005. Then, Holmes missed the entire 2006 season and only played four games in 2007.

Who knows what could have been with Holmes?
