Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he thought he popped his Achilles tendon when he left the field in the team’s Week 17 victory.

Aaron Rodgers wasn’t sure what was happening at the time, but at least now he knows he has a couple weeks to get over it. What he first thought was a popped Achilles tendon in Week 17 was actually a re-injury of a calf muscle originally hurt in the team’s Week 16 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“My initial thought was I popped my Achilles,” Rodgers said per ESPN. “That’s why I kind of stayed down. It was a very painful sensation.”

Fortunately for Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, the injury wasn’t that serious and he returned to the team’s Week 17 home tilt against the Detroit Lions, which Green Bay won 30-20.

Rodgers had a few scary moments in that game, not the least of which was having defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh step on his leg and re-injure his calf. He returned to lead the Packers to victory, but the whole incident didn’t escape Rodgers in hindsight.

“The only thing I can say is if you step on something in your everyday life or if you step on somebody on the field, the first reaction seems to be looking back and maybe apologizing with your hands or maybe pulling your foot back right away, and I’m just not sure that’s what happened on Sunday,” Rodgers said

Suh escaped suspension for the incident via appeal.

Rodgers and the Packers will rest at home during the wild card round, which should give the quarterback plenty of time to rest and prepare to host a divisional round playoff game the following week.
