The Indianapolis Colts rank fifth in cap space right now, and could definitely use a player like Darnell Dockett. The Colts have a thick defensive line that could benefit from a more explosive lineman like Dockett.

The Colts current nose tackle, Josh Chapman had just 21 tackles and no sacks in 16 games last season. The Colts may me looking to shake things up on their line, and Dockett already knows the 3-4 set from Arizona. The Colts finished 11th in total defense last season and will need to get at least inside the top 10 if they want to be a contender for the Super Bowl.

Another key defensive lineman for the Colts right now is Cory Redding, but the 6’4 defensive end is a free agent and there are questions whether or not the Colts will try to resign him.

The biggest of the Colts worries right now needs to be help for Andrew Luck because Hakeem Nicks, Reggie Wayne and Ahmad Bradshaw are all free agents right now. Reportedly, the Colts are one of the top three contenders to land former Vikings running back Adrian Peterson who was reinstated by the NFL this week. If the Colts are somehow able to land Peterson ahead of the Dallas Cowboys, you may see them spend as little money as they can in order to make space for him and wide receivers that the Colts desperately need to add.

Hopefully, the Colts don’t forget about their defensive needs during this time of offseason structuring. While they do need a couple offensive weapons, they almost as importantly need defensive linemen to help stop the rush and get to the passer. Dockett would be a great fit, but they may not think the spending is worth the risk.
