Julius Thomas says not agreeing to an extension with the Denver Broncos last summer signaled to him that he would not be with the team for the long-term.

Julius Thomas’ time as a Denver Bronco has come to an end, as the talented tight end agreed to terms with the Jacksonville Jaguars on a five-year, $46 million deal Tuesday.

Thomas leaving Denver wasn’t exactly his choice, though.

The Denver Post’s Mike Klis reported that the Broncos never made an offer or even called Thomas to negotiate this offseason.

While Denver’s lack of interest may be surprising to us, it didn’t catch the tight end off guard.

Thomas told NBC Sports that he had a feeling he wouldn’t be in the team’s long-term plans after the two parties couldn’t agree to a contract extension last summer.

"“To be completely honest, I think that I had a pretty good idea when the season started,” Thomas told PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio.  “Not being able to work out the negotiations during the summer really clued me in that you’re gonna have to play this year and you’re gonna have to do all you can.  You hope you can be back, but you can’t count on it.“Then when the season ended, and there still kind of had the same lingering difficulties in getting a contract done, I was prepared that it wouldn’t get done and I would have been surprised if it had.”"

Thomas also wrote in The Players’ Tribune that he purchased a house in Denver last summer because he was confident that he and the Broncos would come to an agreement prior to the 2014 season.

Unfortunately for Thomas, this is how the business of the NFL works some time. On the bright side, he has 46 million other reasons to be happy.
