Zayn Malik leaves One Direction for good

One Direction officially loses a member as Zayn Malik announces that he is leaving the group after five years.

One of the original members of the world-wide phenomenon that is One Direction has left the band today, breaking teen hearts all over the globe. The pop star has been with the band since it’s inception on the British X-Factor five years ago. He left the tour last week and speculation was today put to bed when Malik issued this statement.

"“My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I’d like to apologise to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight. I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world.” – Zayn Malik"

Fans of the band have a silver lining however as the other four remaining bands will continue to tour and make music together. They issued a statement following the departure of their former band mate saying they understand his decision but are disappointed none the less.

"“We’re really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally respect his decision and send him all our love for the future. The past five years have been beyond amazing, we’ve gone through so much together, so we will always be friends. The four of us will now continue. We’re looking forward to recording the new album and seeing all the fans on the next stage of the world tour.” -1D"

It must be tough being in the limelight from a very young age, and he has no doubt made enough money to last the rest of his life provided he doesn’t do anything ridiculous. You can understand the decision but fans around the world are heartbroken none the less.
