Terror on the 91st Floor: Window washers get caught in wind gust (Video)
By Tim Mack
Window Washers found themselves being thrown around 91 stories above ground during a recent Wind Storm in Shanghai.
Every job comes with some occupational hazards. For instance, if I’m not paying attention on the job I run the risk of stapling my finger or spilling a steaming hot cup of joe all over my new khakis.

Talk about a case of the mondays! However, neither of those potentially day ruining job hazards compare with what these Shanghai window washers went through.
While cleaning the 91st floor windows of the Shanghai World Financial Center, a wind storm swept some unfortunate window wipers out and away from the building, leaving them swaying violently back and forth. The minute long vertigo inducing video shows the cleaner’s suspended scaffolding as it swings in and out of frame. It even makes contact with the building a few times.
At this day and age why are humans still risking their lives just to make skyscrapers shine? Isn’t technology advanced enough to have a few robots clean those hard to reach 91st floor windows? My grandma has a robot that zooms around her living room carpet and vacuums up all the cat hair lying around. Can’t that technology be tweaked to do the same thing except on the side of a building? It’s 2015 and we still have human beings climbing buildings to wash windows.
Robot labor is the answer to a dirty skyscraper. It is also the answer to “who’s gonna grab me a beer when I’m too engrossed in the 2025 NBA Finals to leave my hover-couch and hover-shoe over to the hover-fridge to grab one myself?” After all, a couple of busted bots is much better than some busted humans. At least that’s what we’ll say until the inevitable robot uprising.
The window cleaners survived the incident with only minor injuries and a newfound fear of heights.
