Report: Dwayne Wade suffered no structure damage to knee
The Miami Heat received good news after an examination of Dwayne Wade’s knee following an injury and he will play again as soon as Saturday.
The Miami Heat are scrambling right now, tied for eighth in the Eastern Conference with the Boston Celtics trying to get into the playoffs. In Thursday night’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, it appeared that Miami was done for when star player Dwayne Wade suffered a knee injury that looked gruesome. But, Wade will play again this season, possibly as soon as Saturday.
Here’s the video of the injury:
As Wade backed down Iman Shumpert and was getting set to do a turn around fadeaway, his right leg slipped and he looked like he could have torn something in his right leg, but it was his left knee that suffered the only injury. Wade hit the inside of his knee on the floor, causing heavy bruising and he was sidelined for the rest of the game.
Here’s what wade had to say about the play via the South Florida Sun-Sentinel:
"“When you go down like that, I knew I was in trouble,” he said of the non-contact injury. “I was a little concerned. But once they did the test on my knee to make sure all my ligaments were strong, I felt a little better.“It could have been worse. Everybody thought it was a groin. The only thing I feel is where my left knee banged on the floor. That’s the sorest right now.”"
Wade has had a bad history with his left knee throughout his career with an ailment known as “Jumper’s Knee” otherwise known as Patellar Tendinitis that causes pain to the interior of the knee, where Wade bruised it Thursday. It goes back to the 2007 offseason when Wade had to get surgery to repair damage done to his knee during the season. Since then, Wade has had to battle problems with his left knee throughout his career and for much of this season.
Unfortunately, Miami really can’t afford to play without Wade, who is their leader on a team that has suffered many injuries this year, most notably losing arguably their best player in Chris Bosh for the rest of the year due to blood clots. Wade has been averaging over 21 points per game this season as he tries to lead a weak Miami team into the playoffs.
While Wade’s injury looked significant, he could be back on the court as soon as Saturday when they face the Detroit Pistons, a team Wade dropped 40 points on earlier this week.
According to the Sun Sentinel, Wade will undergo typical treatment that he’s had to do all year in Detroit before Saturday’s game and will make the decision on whether he’s ready to step back on the court. With only seven games left, Miami needs every win they can get so they can hobble into the playoffs and beat out Boston.
