Ben Crane became the first golfer of The Masters this year to send his tee shot into the water, but expect many more golfers to follow suit.

Augusta National’s famed “Amen Corner” has claimed its first victim of The 2015 Masters, American golfer Ben Crane. The moniker given to the course’s dangerous stretch from the 11th to 13th hole has been the downfall of many players throughout the years, and the 39-year old from Portland, Ore. was no exception.

Crane knew that his tee shot was in bad shape on the par-3 12th hole from the moment he made contact.

The one-bounce shot into the lake was symbolic of Crane’s struggles all afternoon. This disaster was just another addition to a long list of troubles for him from the first day of The Masters. Crane finished the 12th hole with a triple-bogey, and five shots over-par during his first visit to “Amen Corner” this year.

The untimely stretch of bad shots led to Crane finishing the round at seven over-par. From the looks of it, he will only have one more round to redeem himself, as only five players separate him from the bottom of the leaderboard. Though nothing is ever out of the question at The Masters, I do not see him climbing out of this hole to make the cut.

Amateur golfers all around the world can sympathize with Crane in this situation, but countless professionals can as well. Although he may be the first victim of “Amen Corner”, he surely will not be the last player to lose their hopes for a green jacket during one of the most notorious three-hole stretches on the PGA Tour.
