Top 10 most disappointing things during the 2015 NBA season
1. No playoffs for the Thunder or Pelicans
One of the worst parts of the Eastern Conference being so awful this year is the thought that the bottom team in the conference is taking a playoff spot from either the New Orleans Pelicans or the Oklahoma City Thunder. Both the Thunder and Pelicans have been incredibly fun to watch this year. And there is no doubt that if they were in the other conference, they would be playing well into May.
Even without Kevin Durant, the Thunder have been extremely fun to watch. Seeing Russell Westbrook put up triple-double after triple-double is amazing to see. We probably won’t get another chance to see someone play at such a high level for a while. It would be a shame if we didn’t get to see what Westbrook does in the playoffs on the NBA’s highest stage.
Similarly, the Pelicans might not be a playoff team either even though they have a 44-37 record. Despite Anthony Davis’ best efforts to absolutely drag his team to the playoffs, if they lose to the Spurs on Wednesday and the Thunder win, they will get an early offseason.
This would be one of the most disappointing things to happen. Both of these teams have a star player who is playing at such a high level and the entertainment value is awesome. If they end the season with a tie (both win or both lose) I suggest a game be played to see who gets the eight seed. Even though the Pelicans technically own the tiebreaker, seeing these teams duke it out for playoff life would be amazing. And it would also kind of rectify the flawed conference playoff system that rewards mediocre play as long as the rest of your conference is playing at the same level.
