Collins went undrafted after teams were waiting for him to finish his questioning with Baton Rouge police over the death of a former girlfriend. Collins was not a suspect in the case but the poor timing of him being needed for questioning cost him a lot of money and a chance to be drafted.

Still, he ended up with a team that could be building something special with their offensive line. Collins joins Tyron Smith, Zack Martin and Travis Frederick. The good news is that because he was an undrafted free agent, the Cowboys will be able to rework his deal after two years instead of three.

At the press conference, it was an emotional one for Collins and everyone after everything he had been through in such a short span.

Even the team’s owner Jerry Jones was tearing up when he told a story that the mother of Collins had told him at dinner the night before the team officially signed him.

“My boy has been hit on the end of the nose hard.” Jones said with tears in his eyes as he recounted the story, “I wouldn’t want to be in his way, and I’d advise nobody else to get in his way. He’s gonna show them. He’s gonna show them what this is about.”

Those were indeed strong emotional words from Jones as he retold the story from Collins mother with conviction and he along with Collins looked determined to show the league that this young man who has been dragged through the emotional ringer the past couple of weeks, is going to unleash vengeance on whoever lines up across from him.

Jerry Jones has never been afraid to stand behind one of his players before, and now he stands behind his newest offensive lineman. The words from his mom are powerful and much like the will of Collins.

The Dallas Cowboys added Byron Jones and Randy Gregory in the draft, who both have first-round talent. They added another first-round talent in Collins on Monday.

More importantly, Collins can now focus on football and let 31 other teams know why they just made a big mistake in not drafting him.
