Kevin White, WR, Chicago Bears

Kevin White filled a pretty big need for the Chicago Bears, who traded Brandon Marshall to the New York Jets this offseason. They needed a weapon across from Alshon Jeffery and White is a perfect fit.

Which also means he might struggle to get the attention needed to make it to the Pro Bowl for some time. Because Jeffery is incredibly talented, so Bears quarterback Jay Cutler will lean on him more heavily than a rookie – even one as talented as White.

Of course, while the targets may largely head towards Jeffery, so will the coverage. Jeffery has been able to overcome that, but a little safety help over the top or some jamming at the line could slow him down which means Cutler might be forced to look another way.

That would give White some opportunity, at least until he did enough to roll coverage back in his direction.

White improved every year at West Virginia, and was handed a lot of different routes to deal with in his last year. That’s good news for his chances of making the Pro Bowl sometime soon, as will his speed and route running which create separation.

White has the talent and tools, but like many receivers, it could take time. He has everything he needs to get to a Pro Bowl – more than once – in his career. He’s also in a division with some talented receivers though, which could hurt him initially. Not many rookies will beat out Calvin Johnson, Odell Beckham Jr, Dez Bryant, Vincent Jackson, Larry Fitzgerald (admittedly on the decline), Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and more.

So I see him as an addition in his second or third year.
