What? Andrew McCutchen is on this list? It seems like he’s always one of the league’s best hitters. Well, that hasn’t been the case thus far in 2015 as McCutchen is swinging and hoping he makes decent contact instead of knowing he will make decent contact.

There’s a reason his Pittsburgh Pirates are nine games out of first place in the NL East and it’s mainly because their best player can’t hit water if he fell out of a boat.

On the year, McCutchen is hitting a measly .219 with two homers and 14 RBI. Just how cold has he been lately? Since April 12, McCutchen has just 19 hits, no home runs and eight RBI. That’s a whole month of mediocrity — something very new for the former MVP and four-time All-Star.

Prior to the 2015 season, McCutchen had recorded three-straight .300-average seasons and had four-straight All-Star appearances. He has a lot of work to do if he wants to improve both of those by one year.

It won’t be very long before McCutchen is hitting like one of the best in the league — something he already is but hasn’t shown.

Don’t be surprised if the 28-year-old star makes his fifth All-Star team in a couple months’ time.
