NFL Draft 2015: 5 best team draft classes
By Brad Rowland
New York Jets
The Jets only drafted six players in their 2015 class, but sometimes, “best player available” is a good strategy.
Leonard Williams may be the best overall player in this class, and the former USC defensive lineman fell in New York’s lap with the sixth pick. There were, unquestionably, bigger needs for the Jets, but Williams can pair with an already stout defensive front and improving a strength is never a bad thing in the NFL.
Behind Williams, I’m a big fan of the selection of Ohio State wide receiver Devin Smith. I thought Smith should have gone off the board in round one, and as a vertical threat, he is a dynamic player. At the next level, he will certainly need to add polish, but the Jets are in desperate need of a big-play wideout, and Smith can be that.
Lastly, I’m a sucker for Bryce Petty. Scouts are all over the place with regard to the former Baylor QB, but Petty was my third-favorite player in the class at the position, and I think he has the tools to become an NFL starter with the requisite seasoning. Geno Smith gets one more year, and that will allow Petty to develop.
