Chicago Bulls: Five replacements for Tom Thibodeau
Fred Hoiberg, Iowa State head coach
Could Fred Hoiberg make the jump from the college ranks to the NBA?
Absolutely. As a matter of fact, he is reportedly the early favorite to take over for Thibodeau in Chicago. K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune even went as far as to say the job is Hoibergâs to lose.
While it may be a little early to name a clear-cut favorite for the Bulls coaching vacancy, considering it has only been open for a few hours, Hoiberg makes a good case to win the job.
He helped lead the Iowa State Cyclones on an improbable run to winning the Big 12 conference tournament last season, defeating the heavily-favorited Kansas Jayhawks. Unfortunately the run would end there, as the Cyclones were shocked with an upset in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Hoiberg has also maintained a strong relationship with Chicagoâs management since his playing days with the team from 1999-2003, which honestly could play the biggest role in his potential hiring.
Tom Thibodeau was essentially unreachable towards the end of his run with the team. Considering that the two parties already have a positive relationship, the Bulls would not have to worry about that one bit with Hoiberg at the helm.
The organization is definitely looking for a âcompany guyâ that will be willing to work with management, and a fresh, yet familiar face in the Iowa State coach could be the perfect man to fulfill that role.
