1. Ichiro Suzuki — Current Hits: 2,886

If we’re counting the international and major league career of Ichiro, then he has over 4,000 hits and isn’t far away from having the most hits of all time. When it’s all said and done, he will be recognized as one of the all-time greats.

However, in the MLB, at 41 years old, Ichiro currently has 2,886 hits and is very close to 3,000 total. He had ten straight seasons of 200+ hits, and was arguably the best hitter that baseball had seen in quite some time. If he had come over to the majors a lot sooner, he would have easily surpassed 3,000 total right now.

Being only 114 hits away makes you think that Ichiro is in it for the long haul. Not too many position players play to 41 years old, and the fact that he is still out there in a Miami Marlins uniform should tell you all you need to know about his drive to play baseball.

This season, in 65 games, he has 42 hits and is batting .292 on the season. If you add in the halfway point of the season, plus 10 or so hits for games 66-82, then it’s very possible that Ichiro could add another 60 hits this season if we’re being conservative.

That would leave him only needing to play next season and to get about 50 hits or so at age 42. He has shown this season that despite being older, he can still hit the baseball. If he goes on a tear, he could get it this year, but the safe bet is that he accomplishes the task next season and rides out into the sunset and calls it a fantastic career.
