2016 NBA Mock Draft: Who will teams be tanking for next year?
28. Aleksandar Vezenkov – Greece – SF/PF
19-year-old Aleksandar Vezenkov has shown overseas that he has a complete offensive arsenal. Despite not possessing a great deal of explosiveness or athleticism, the forward is able to score from the perimeter and in the post with solid footwork and a great feel for the game.
The biggest concern for Vezenkov as a prospect, though, is the fact that he doesn’t have elite athleticism and has been bothered in the past by big, athletic defenders like he would see in the NBA. If he can continue to develop his offensive game to better handle those types of defenders, Vezenkov will have more value. Even now, though, his production overseas makes him an intriguing prospect.
29. Egemen Guven – Turkey – PF/C
Another international prospect worth watching is Egemen Guven. The big man has a nice frame to be a forward at the NBA level and has tremendous savvy in the flow of the game. That compliments his quickness and scoring ability quite well for such a young player at just 18 years old.
While he has a nice frame, he still could stand to bulk up before coming to the NBA. He struggles at times playing with his back to the basket in the post, as well as finishing through contact on the interior. For all of his skill, he’s also not a terrific rebounder. Guven still has some developing left to do, but he has enough potential to be worth a late first round pick.
30. Brice Johnson – North Carolina – PF
As part of a group of potential first-round picks in 2016 returning to North Carolina for the 2015-16 season, Brice Johnson is one of the most intriguing. He’s shown immense improvement over three seasons in Chapel Hill, but his senior campaign will be vital for his draft stock.
Johnson has a fantastic touch in the post, particularly after bulking up what was once a very slight frame. He’s explosive around the rim and on the glass, but also has a nice touch on floaters and jump hooks in the lane.
What’ll be key for Johnson is showing more assertiveness as a senior. He has shown flashes of being able to take over, but never with consistency. With his ability, seeing him dominate on a consistent basis could make him a steal in the 2016 draft if he falls to the late first round.
