In the 2014 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns took Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert with the ninth-overall pick. Gilbert was the “other” first-round pick for the Browns last year, with most of the attention going to Johnny Manziel.

In Gilbert’s rookie season, there was constant chatter coming out of Cleveland that the rookie was unfocused and lazy. All of that contributed to Gilbert ranking 65th on Pro Football Focus for corners, right behind Demetrius McCray, Antonio Allen and D.J. Hayden. Yikes.

So far, the preseason is treating Gilbert very harshly. On Monday, the Browns and Buffalo Bills got together for a join practice. Gilbert was absolutely destroyed. The people are not pleased.

So who is to blame here? Is Gilbert just lazy? Is general manager Ray Farmer a disaster when it comes to evaluating talent?

The poor Browns, they can never have nice things.
