James Harden turned 26 on Wednesday. In case you were wondering, he shares a birthday with such luminaries as Macaulay Culkin and Mother Teresa. Good for him.

We knew Harden was a flashy fella even before it was recently revealed that he was dating a Kardashian. I mean, look at this hat. It’s quite a hat, guys.

Anyway, apparently Harden’s new girlfriend, Khloe, wanted to celebrate the Rocket guard’s birthday in style. So she did, much to the chagrin of her neighbors, apparently. According to TMZ, Khloe initiated a rather lengthy fireworks show once the clock hit midnight last night:

"Khloe Kardashian and James Harden threw their own personal 4th of July with a GIANT fireworks display that woke up thousands of residents — and city officials are scrambling to find out HOW it got approved. The thunderous fireworks show — visible from multiple towns along the oceanfront — went on for 15 minutes at the stroke of midnight. TMZ has learned the whole thing was a yacht party for Harden’s 26th birthday, and it was all on the up and up."

Yep, sounds about right! It also sounds like a lot fun, despite the rather harrowing description of the events from an L.A. city councilman (via Bleacher Report):

"“I heard from folks from all over the place,” Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Bonin said. “Folks were rousted from a good night’s sleep, school kids were crying in the night, dogs were barking, animals were going nuts. This was an unexpected, unanticipated, scary-as-hell, middle-of-the-night series of explosions.”"

To be fair, if I was awakened by a bunch of explosions in the middle of the night I’d probably assume World War III was breaking out, too. That said, “school kids were crying in the night” sounds a biiiiiiit melodramatic, Mr. Bonin. It’s just James Harden, the same guy that was apparently injured by a light tap from his coach once upon a time.

Nothing to fear here, everyone.
