Ben Roethlisberger came in as the backup and delivered a gem for a Steelers win

Final. 30. 55. 9. 53

Things were dicey at the start of the day for the Pittsburgh Steelers as they welcomed the Cleveland Browns to Heinz Field as Landry Jones got the start at quarterback with Ben Roethlisberger nursing a foot injury. However, as Jones was injured in the first quarter, Roethlisberger was forced to tough it out. Despite Johnny Manziel’s best efforts, Roethlisberger coming in was ultimately the death blow for the Steelers as he absolutely torched their banged up defense, even without the help of DeAngelo Williams who was ineffective all day in the Pittsburgh attack.

There’s no denying the fact that Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, and Martavis Bryant were all studs for the Steelers offense against the Browns as all four men enjoyed monster days on the gridiron. However, there’s also no denying that the Steelers defense stepped up in a big way. Even though Manziel’s stat-line was prolific as he almost touched 400 yards passing, Pittsburgh terrorized him in the pass-rush all day long and forced him to be hurried in his reads and decision-making all day. With Roethlisberger coming in and helping to carry the offense in addition to the Pittsburgh defense playing as well as they did, the Browns stood no chance. It was all Steelers all day as they grabbed the victory and stayed alive in the AFC wildcard picture.

Three stars

Ben Roethlisberger started this game as the backup to Landry Jones, but tore it up as he had to come in to relieve the injured Jones. He finished the day going 22-33 for 379 yards and three scores, though he did throw a fourth-quarter interception.

Antonio Brown continued to look like he’s in a class of his own in the NFL at the wide receiver position. The Steelers star finished the day with 10 catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns in just another day at the offense for him.

Lawrence Timmons was the star for a Steelers defense that terrorized Johnny Manziel all day. Timmons alone finished with 10 tackles, one sack, and two tackles for loss.
